Hendrix is a name synonymous with spine-tingling guitar playing, and it’s appropriate that we focus first on him as the consummate guitar pro. Along with other 60s pioneers such as Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, he helped define and shape the sound of electric guitar and blues / rock music. It goes without saying that he helped define the psychedelic sound which stills owes much to his legacy today.
Hendrix used a relatively simple setup compared to the axemen of today, focusing on achieving the sounds he wanted with the exact hardware he needed to achieve it. His sound engineer Roger Mayer deserves much credit for designing pedals and tweaking hardware to get the sound just right. Here’s the classic Hendrix setup.
